Thomas (Tom) Jutzi - Associate Counsel

Practice

Tom has broad experience in Corporate and Commercial law transactions, Wills, Estates, Powers of Attorney, Charities and Not-for-Profit Corporations and Real Estate law. The practice of law primarily involves problem-solving, affording the opportunity to apply rules, past experience and acquired insight and common sense to assist clients. Tom endeavours to bring clarity to matters and to keep clients from becoming entangled in disputes. His goal is to combine high quality work with progressive values. Tom is grateful for the many opportunities he has had to complete complex negotiations, close deals and work with clients to help them plan their future. These give a lawyer the experience and confidence to analyze a vast array of legal issues.

Professional Activities

Tom is a member of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association and Waterloo Region Law Association. He has lectured frequently in the community on various aspects of both Business and Estate Planning law. Tom has served as a guest lecturer at the UW Innovate Business Start-Up Camps and was a founding director and key advisor in the creation of a family of mutual funds based upon socially responsible investment.

Tom has served on the boards of numerous local private corporations. He has also had the good fortune to have worked on the legal aspects of numerous overseas development projects primarily through his long involvement with Mennonite Economic Development Associates, both as a board member and then as legal counsel.

Tom also holds a certificate in Alternate Dispute Resolution.

Community Involvement

Tom's community directorships have included Community Justice Initiatives Inc., Independent Living Centre Waterloo Region, Leadership Waterloo Region, Lost & Found Theatre Inc., MAX Insurance Company, Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) and Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (Ontario) Limited, an open bonded local credit union. He has acted in several federal elections in the local riding under the Elections Act and presently serves on the Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee for Waterloo Region. Tom is also a former member of the Kinsman and Kiwanis clubs.
